 What is Contemporary Art?

The term "contemporary art" refers to an art made and produced by artists living today. Today's artists work in and respond to a global environment that is culturally diverse, technologically advancing, and multifaceted. Working in a wide range of mediums, contemporary artists often reflect and comment on modern-day society. Contemporary artists may question traditional ideas of how art is defined, what constitutes art, and how art is made, while creating a dialogue with—and in some cases rejecting—the styles and movements that came before them. Also known as, "art of the present".

WHY IS WOTL A CONTEMPORAY ART?

WOTL (Word of the Lourd) hosted by Lourd De Veyra is a show that is televised in the TV5 Network. WOTL is a contemporary art because the show is a platform that addresses the current issues in the society. The topics given and explained by the show is usually relevant today. It is for the purpose for us to be aware and to have knowledge on what is happening today. These issues have a history on how the idea or concept was formed. There are 4 characteristics that can define a contemporary art. First is that it conveys a process-based characteristic in emphasizing how the artist made art out of it’s final product. And making them realize the development of that art and showing them the main idea of contemporary arts. It starts with a concept that ends up with many ideas formed due to the information given to the show. The given information are examined and studied before supporting it to the main idea or topic. 

Second is that it has shown a site-specific characteristic. For a concept to give its fuller meaning, the origin of the idea can be connected to have a background on the final product. In his videos, he connects the ideas in a particular place to give more details and have more meaning in that topic or idea.

Third and fourth is that WOTL have also shown a collaborative and interactive characteristics that rationalize how the show do a cooperative work with its audiences and other people behind the topic. They are collaborating with other people to justify the topic being shown and explained. In collaboration, they are able to support the present issues with facts and ideas for the audience to know that a certain issue is relevant today and it needs to be taken note of by the society. His videos are interactive by asking the audiences their opinion and perspectives for other people to be able to give their reaction or opinion also on the audience's opinion.
